CCEM in Malaysia

The 17th. in a series of Conference of Commonwealth Ministers took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It was 50 years since the first conference of this kind which took place in Oxford, UK in 1959. The Council for Education in the Commonwealth had a strong delegation. Before the conference, the Commonwealth Consortium for Education, of which CEC is a founder member, had a conference on "Living Together in Peace - Education for Social Cohesion". The conclusions of this conference, which were forwarded to the Ministers conference taking place immediately after, can be dowloaded by clicking here (52 kb). CEC itself also issued a statement which was circulated to Ministers before the meeting. This can also be downloaded by clicking here (26 kb).

The final communique by the Ministers can be downloaded from this website by clicking here (156 kb).

The following video clip, which lasts just under 10 minutes and can be downloaded by those on broadband, includes interviews with Colin Power, the Chair of the Consortium and a former Deputy Director for Education in UNESCO, with David Lammy, UK's Minister for Higher Education and Intellectual Property, and with Thomas Uthup, from the UN Alliance of Civilizations. It also includes some of the dancing and music heard at the conference and a visit by David Lammy to the stall that CEC along with other Commonwealth education organisations ran at the conference.
